3 part series exploring materials in making visual art to find your unique voice

Ages 13-18 any experience level welcome

Day 1: Introduction to materials. Together we will explore various materials for making visual art. I will give a demo on making paint from earth pigments and participants will have time to explore this process on their own. I will also introduce acrylics, watercolor, pastels, and colored pencils, guiding the group through some helpful techniques to applying each medium. We will close by reflecting on the qualities of each material and how it feels to work with them.

Day 2: Creating with intention. We will open with a group discussion on what topics really matter to teens. With a prompt we will be guided to make a work of art using the materials of choice to best support each unique voice.

Day 3: Reflection and connection. Individually and as a group we will take time to be with the art and reflect on meaningful aspects of the process and results.

From this workshop series you will walk away with a deeper understanding of your own unique creative process and a renewed appreciation for the materials you chose to work with.
